The Scottish Government has today consented the Berwick Bank offshore wind farm project. Located approximately 38km from the Scottish Borders coastline at St Abbs, Berwick Bank wind farm will have an estimated capacity of 4.1 gigawatts (GW) which, with current technology, could generate enough electricity each year to power every household in Scotland around twice over.
Commenting on the Scottish Government’s announcement about Berwick Bank today, Sarah Murray, CEO of Forth Green Freeport, said:
“The Scottish Government’s announcement that it has consented the Berwick Bank offshore wind farm project today is welcomed by the Forth Green Freeport (FGF).
“FGF is strategically located in close proximity to the Berwick Bank project site and our tax sites – particularly at the Port of Leith which has been transformed into a bespoke offshore renewables hub – have the potential to play a major role in supporting the development of this large offshore project.
“The FGF team and our partners will work closely with developers to ensure that the right skills are in place at the right time, ensuring that the local workforce is ready to engage too. FGF benefits from a world class innovation ecosystem which can be wrapped around firms involved in different strands of Berwick Bank’s development. We look forward to connecting supply chains and supporting where we can on this and other offshore wind projects in the pipeline.”
